How it works

How to make a YouTube QR code

  1. 1

Choose a channel or a video

Type your channel handle, such as @yourchannel, or paste a video link to send people straight to one video.

  2. 2

    Check the video is viewable

Unlisted videos play for anyone with the link. Private videos won't play for the people who scan.

  3. 3

    Style it

Add your colours, logo or a "Scan me" frame.

  4. 4

    Test and download

Scan the preview to check it opens the right video, then download PNG, JPEG, SVG or PDF.

Where it helps

Use cases.

  • Assembly and setup guides

Print a code on the packaging that opens the setup video, so customers watch instead of puzzling over a leaflet.

  • Recipes and lessons

Link each printed recipe card or worksheet to the video that shows how it's done.

  • Posters and trailers

Let people watch the trailer for your film, gig or launch straight from the poster.

  • Channel growth

Put your channel code on merch, stickers and the end of printed handouts.

Before you print

Tips that save a reprint.

  • Use a video link for a specific job and the channel for discovery. One code per purpose works better than one code for everything.
  • To start a video at a certain moment, use YouTube's share option with the start time ticked, then paste that link.
  • Unlisted suits customer-only content such as setup guides: anyone with the code can watch, but the video won't appear in search.
  • If you might replace the video with a newer version, a dynamic code lets you change the link after printing.
  • Print at least 2 cm (0.8 in) wide and test the scan in the real lighting, such as a shop shelf or a dim venue.

FAQ

YouTube QR code questions.

Yes. Paste the video link. Enter your channel handle to open your channel instead.

On most phones with the app installed, the link opens in it. Otherwise the video plays in the browser.

Yes. Paste the full link, and check the preview opens it on your phone.

The code still scans, but it opens a video that's no longer available. Keep the video live, or use a dynamic code so you can point it at a replacement.

Static codes can't count scans. Dynamic codes add scan analytics by city, device and time.

Need to change it after printing?

A dynamic code can point somewhere new any time, shows you who scans it, and keeps working even if you cancel.
