How it works

How to make a SMS QR code

  1. 1

    Enter the number

Type the mobile number that should receive the texts, with the + and country code, for example +44.

  2. 2

    Write the message

Add up to 300 characters to prefill, such as a keyword, a booking request or "Please call me back". Short is better.

  3. 3

    Style and test

Choose your colours and frame, then scan the preview and check the messaging app opens with both the number and the message filled in.

  4. 4

    Download

Save it in PNG, JPEG, SVG or PDF, from 512 to 4096 px.

Where it helps

Use cases.

  • Text-to-join lists

Prefill a keyword like JOIN so people sign up for updates with a single tap.

  • Callback requests

Put a code on a shop door or van that sends "Please call me back" to your mobile.

  • Reporting problems

Label vending machines, washrooms or hire equipment with a code that texts the site ID to your maintenance number.

  • Votes and entries

Prefill an entry code or vote so people can't mistype it.

Before you print

Tips that save a reprint.

  • Include the location or product in the prefilled message, so you know where each text came from.
  • Tell people what will happen. A short line like "Scan to text us" beside the code sets expectations.
  • Use a number that can receive texts. Many landlines can't.
  • Make sure someone reads the replies. A code that texts an unanswered number does more harm than good.
  • Print it at least 2 cm (0.8 in) wide, and larger on signs people scan from a few steps away.

FAQ

SMS QR code questions.

Something else? Email hello@endureqr.com and a person will reply within one business day.

It opens the phone's messaging app with your number and message already filled in. The person can edit the message and taps send themselves.

No. A QR code can't send a text on its own. The person always has to tap send.

Yes. Both read SMS codes with the built-in camera and open the default messaging app.

The person sending it, at their usual messaging rates.

Not on a static code, because both are stored in the pattern. Make a new code if either changes.

Up to 300 characters. Shorter messages make simpler codes that scan more easily, and people are less likely to trim them before sending.

Need to change it after printing?

A dynamic code can point somewhere new any time, shows you who scans it, and keeps working even if you cancel.
